A Joyous and Charitable Occasion
I've just got in from a very special birthday party for two extremely close friends - we were in the same "baby-group" 25 years ago, and have stayed in touch since. These two friends are both 60 this year and to celebrate they gathered together 110 of the nicest people in the world. (I shouldn't say that, because I was invited:-) Anyway, we had a fantastic evening with a delicious meal, superb entertainment, a slide show of photos through the years, topped off by an irreverent and hilarious tribute to their parents from the two "babies" of 25 years ago. But, quite apart from having such a lovely evening, what was really moving was that John and Margaret specified "no presents", saying that instead guests may prefer to make a donation to the registered charity they support "Joybells Orphanage and School Foundation". I was only too pleased to comply - partly selfishly, saving me from trying to imagine what I could buy for my friends, and partly because I always feel it's a shame to just buy random presents for people who already have everything they need (which, let's face it), is most of us! Anyway, their request inspired me to go online to look up the "Joybells Orphanage and School Foundation". The work being done, and supported by my friends and their Church, is truly amazing. Please visit the website below to learn more about the work that John and Margaret (and, of course, so many others) do on behalf of these children. I hope you may feel inspired to support the hard work and family values of all the lovely "John and Margarets" in the world, quietly and unselfishly working away to help others. You'll see on the "How You Can Help" page that for the price of a daily coffee you could help transform the life of these orphans. Volunteer workers are also needed. Please feel free to pass on the word to anyone who would be interested.
